Making Missions More Realistic

I'm  a little surprised by the number of screen shots from missions that show the mission pointer (the green arrows spinning above the objective) and the mission compass (the game-style gauge in the upper left). Although the pointer is extremely useful (which is why we designed it) I tend to turn off the pointer as it's a bit of an immersion killer.

I'm wondering if some users don't know how to turn it/them off... Tutorials 1 and 3 cover this, but using the "U" key (on English keyboards) will hide/show these objects at will. You can also set the defaults for them on the general settings page in the UI.

If you want a greater challenge, try flying without them.

i think quite a few people missed this to be honest with you (i know i did). i'm putting it down to everyone being too eager/excited in the first few missions and missed that little bit of info. Very handy feature and the person who came up with it deserves credit, helps ALOT.

Also where is the texture held for the progressive taxi arrow...? im not a massive fan of the current one and would like to create a new one.

cheers for these updates matey!

I don't know where the texture for the progressive taxi arrow is. I'll try to remember to ask one of the artists.

Actually... I like the progressive taxi lines much better than the old ones.  Since I don't have a detailed airport diagram for every airport in the world I use it quite a bit and think it's wonderful and easy to see...

Now.... I also leave the mission pointer on because I don't wanna screw the mission up and do it right on the first time.  I use it to navigate and it helped me quite a bit in the soaring tutorial... which maybe is a bad thing but it's how I play.

Thanks

It's not a bad thing at all, that's why we put it there. But some people won't like it and it's good to know how to get rid of it.

I missed it too at first and started looking for it after a few missions. The reason I missed it (I guess) is that I jumped in halfway the mission list.. didn't care much for going through all the beginners stuff after 25+ years of simming.... sometimes it pays to take things from scratch I suppose ;-)
