Interessante o seguinte link com o Roadmap do SDK do OpenXML em que indica para Abril compatibilidade com 100% com as alterações feitas na BRM ao DIS 29500 OpenXML.

There's one final detail about the SDK I'd like to clarify, which relates to Gareth Horton's point above about the spec changes accepted at the BRM. When I talked to reporters earlier in the week I wasn't certain about whether we'd have all the final ISO changes in version 1.0 of the SDK, and I was careful to not represent that we would.

Well, I seem to have underestimated our dev team: I've now verified that version 1.0 will definitely be 100% compliant with the final ISO/IEC 29500 spec, including the changes accepted at the BRM. So starting in April you'll be able to build applications that are compliant with the final spec, and in May when we release version 1.0 you'll be able to go live and ship products built on the API. Time to get coding!

23. Clarity of content type [Portugal] PT-60 (R 98

Portugal wanted to enable producers to generate content that can be more easily handled by any consumer. There are several areas in the specification where components such as images, text, equations, or audio may be included as part of an Open XML document. The resolution was to add a table with a minimal number of encouraged standard formats, including:

• Images: png, jpg

• Text: UTF-16, HTML

• Audio: mpeg audio

• Video: mpeg video

• Math, Equations: MathML 2.0, OpenXML Math

• Annotations: InkML

The proposal was approved.

24. Application conformance [Portugal] PT-60 (R 98)

Great Britain and Portugal wanted to define more exactly what a conforming application is. Furthermore, they desired to define a "base" application conformance class (has an understanding of at least one feature within its conformance class), and a "full" application conformance class (has an understanding of every feature within its conformance class). This important resolution makes it easier for developers of a producer or consumer of Open XML to categorize the behavior of their applications. Approved.

The Open XML/ODF translator for word processing documents for the Novell edition of OpenOffice.org was made available for download late last week.

The first deliverable resulting from the technical collaboration between Microsoft and Novell, the translator provides support for opening and saving Microsoft Open XML-formatted word processing documents (.docx) in OpenOffice.org. ODF is the OpenDocument format, which is supported by OpenOffice.org, and Open XML is the default file format for Microsoft Office 2007. With the translator, end users will be able to more easily share files between Microsoft Office and OpenOffice.org, as documents better maintain consistent formats, formulas and style templates across the two office productivity suites.

Novell is cooperating with Microsoft and others on an open source project to create the bi-directional translator for documents, spreadsheets and presentations. We’re still hard at it on the translator project, working to extend the interoperability to spreadsheets and presentations.

OpenOffice.org Novell Edition ensures compatibility between the Open Document Format (ODF) and Open XML, Microsoft new document format for Office 2007. Transparent document sharing makes OpenOffice.org the best choice for customers who are deploying Linux desktops in a mixed Linux/Windows environment.

Como permitir a abertura de OpenXML em qualquer versão de OpenOffice:

odf-converter-integrator is an easy way to open Microsoft Office 2007 files (also called Office Open XML, .docx, .xlsx, and .pptx) with a high-quality conversion on any Linux or Windows system in any OpenOffice.org.

odf-converter-integrator uses the high-quality odf-converter code (which converts between Office Open XML and OpenDocument) as packaged by Novell and integrates it into the operating system. That means when you click on a .docx/.xlsx/.pptx file on a web page, in an email attachment, or your desktop, odf-converter-integrator springs into action, converts the .docx/.xlsx/.pptx to an .odt/.ods/.odp, and then automatically opens the new document in OpenOffice.org, StarOffice, Abiword, KWord, Gnumeric, Microsoft Office 2003, or whatever is your default ODF editor.

odf-converter-integrator is simply a little glue to overcomes the integration limitation of the Novell odf-converter, which cannot integrate into most editions of OpenOffice.org (such as the vanilla/Sun Microsystems edition, Fedora, OxygenOffice, and others).

At the core of many publishing workflows is the XML format from the National Library of Medicine (the format is also used for long term archiving and preservation of articles – and actually there are four formats (DTDs) defined by the National Library of Medicine). Beyond the ability to save and open files in the NLM format from Word 2007, the add-in also enables editing of the metadata, which is an important part of the format, directly from within the Word user interface.

Additionally, the add-in provides the editorial staff at the different journals with the ability to define templates, used to assist authors in the writing process, so that, as an end result, articles submitted to journals more closely match the journal requirements in relation to the different sections allowed for the article, their length, and some of the metadata required for publishing.

Obrigado pelo vosso contributo! Conseguiram partilhar um conjunto de informação muito interessante durante esta semana que estive fora.

Chamou-me particularmente à atenção a referência ao blog do Brian do Jones e da contribuição não só da delegação que Portugal enviou à BRM, mas também da própria Comissão Técnica. Muito positivo!

Já agora e ainda relativamente ao evento do Techdays, acabei de receber a classificação do mesmo e só mostra que de facto a apresentação e o tema agradou aos que nela participaram.

Numa escala e 1 a 9, a sessão obteve 7,2 o que é muito bom para o nível de exigência do auditório.
