It’s probably one of the most common questions I get asked so I thought I would quickly list them down and what they do.
| Port | TCP/UDP | Service | Mandatory |
| 25 | TCP | SMTP | Yes, email transport |
| 80 | TCP | HTTP | No – used only for redirection to HTTPS, but useful for usability |
| 443 | TCP | HTTPS | Yes – supports Remote Web Workplace, OWA, Exchange ActiveSync (Mobile), and Outlook Anywhere |
| 987 | TCP | HTTPS published WSS | Yes - Publishes Windows SharePoint Services |
| 1723 | TCP | VPN | No – optional if VPN is configured |
