How Many Servers? How much space do I need?.....SharePoint Capacity Planning Tool

Greeting....

One of the most common questions that I get asked all the time for Sharepoint projects are;

"How many server's do I need?"

"How many Index server's do i need?"

"How much space do I need to assign for my SQL db? and so on, and so forth.

Well this is a difficult question to answer as there are so many factors which are involved in capacity and sizing of a MOSS deployment. There are many great resources on the MSDN and technet site on how to best deploy Sharepoint. One mre tool to add to your aresenal is the SharePoint Capacity Tool!

The SharePoint Capacity Planning Tool is a general-purpose modeling tool that complements SharePoint’s deployment planning documentation. With this tool and the analysis it provides, you can get a head start on planning your SharePoint topology. After you provide the tool with basic information about your organization, the tool provides a first approximation of the topology your organization needs.
