Bizarrely I get the 0x643 error yet do have Terminal Services turned on and set to Automatic.

When I try to manually install WDS4 it can't uninstall the old version so I'm thinking it's not a services issue in all cases.

Flumoxed here :-(

I had the error code 0x643 as well. Very badly information found through the searching machine, causes a lot of problems with our system. This information is finally working good. Thanks for posting! greetz, V

I don't suppose you guys have figured out why Windows Search 4.0 fails to install via Windows Update and via download/install on Vista x64 SP1 in some cases yet? Searching the newsgroups seems to indicate it is an unresolved problem. It's the same every time, no matter what troubleshooting steps I go through (and I have gone through the steps for every technique I could find to resolve this): downloads, installs, reboots, step 3 of 3, errors out, uninstalls. *sigh*
