Verify Your SMTP Domain within the Microsoft Online Services Environment
1. Log in to the Microsoft Online Administration Center with a user that has administrative privileges.
https://admin.microsoftonline.com
2. Navigate to the Services Settings tab, then to the Exchange Online tab.
3. Select New from the right side of the screen.
4. Enter you’re your domain name in the field next to Domain Name.
5. Select which type of domain that you want to set up.
Authoritative:
You would select this option if your mail boxes will be hosted on the Microsoft Online Hosted Exchange environment.
External Relay:
You would select this option if you have an exchange server outside of the Microsoft Online environment is hosting your mail boxes.
6. Press Create to continue with the process.
7. You will now need to verify your domain. This process is to ensure that you have editing control over the domain. You can either select the Checkbox for Start the Verification wizard when this window is closed. Or you can select Verify Now on the SMTP domain home page if you want to verify your domain at a later point in time.
8. When you begin the Verification Wizard you will be prompted with a wind that contains some steps on how to verify your SMTP domain, you can follow those steps, or you can continue reading this for a more detailed walkthrough.
9. Towards the bottom of the window that you should now be prompted with will be a section containing CNAME Information. Within this information there is a CNAME and a Target FQDN, you will use this information to verify your domain.
10. You will now need access to either your SMTP domain hosters’ site, or your DNS server. If your domain is hosted on an external hosing service, skip down to instruction 12.
11. The following are instructions on how to edit your CNAME record on your DNS server to verify your SMTP domain.
1. Open the DNS snap-in. Go to Start, Administrative Tools and then click DNS.
2. Under DNS, expand the Host Name of your DNS server.
3. Expand Forward Lookup Zones.
4. Under Forward Lookup Zones, right-click the zone that you want (for example, domain_name.com), and then click New Alias (CNAME).
5. In the Alias name box, type the CNAME that was given to you.
6. In Fully qualified name for target host box, type red001.mail.microsoftonline.com.
7. Click OK.
12. If you have an external host, you can follow these instructions on how to edit your DNS records to add the CNAME record and the Target FQDN.
CentralNic
1. Go to the CentralNic Web site at http://www.centralnic.com, and click Login.
2. On the Login page, select Account Manager (for direct customers), and log on with your CentralNic User ID and password.
3. On the Account Summary page, in the Domain Names section, click your domain name.
4. On the details page for your domain, in the Actions section, click Manage DNS.
5. On the DNS Manager page, the area where you create new DNS records is located between the Web Forwarding section and the Notes section.
6. In the Host Name section, enter the CNAME that was given to you.
7. Set the Record Type to CNAME (Alias).
8. Leave Priority blank.
9. In Value type in the Target FQDN that was given to you.
10. Click Add Record when finished.
1&1
1. Go to the 1&1 Web site at http://www.1and1.com, and then click Customer Login.
2. Log on with your 1&1 Customer ID and password or with your 1&1 domain name and password.
3. In the Basic Settings section on the Administration tab, click Domains.
4. On the Domain Overview page, select the check box next to your domain name, click the arrow next to New, and then select Create Subdomain.
5. In the Subdomain section enter the CNAME that was given to you
6. In the Domain section type in the name of your domain.
7. On the Domain Overview page, select the check box next to the CNAME.<domain name> subdomain that you created in step 5 and 6, and click the arrow next to DNS, and then select Edit DNS Settings
8. On the DNS Settings page, in the Domain Data section next to General settings, select CNAME.
9. In the Alias section enter the Target FQDN that was given to you.
10. Click Finish to finish.
Note: 1& 1 does not accept CNAME records of the length that is initially given to you, contact support for assistance with this issue.
Yahoo!
1. Go to the Yahoo! Web site at http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com.
2. At the top of the page, next to Manage your services, click Small Business. On the resulting page, log on with your Yahoo! ID and password.
3. On the resulting page under Go To, click Domain Control Panel.
4. On the Welcome to Your Domain Control Panel page, click Manage Advanced DNS Settings.
5. On the Advanced DNS Settings page, in the A and CNAME Records section, click Add Record.
6. In the Source section, add the CNAME that was given to you.
7. In the Destination section, type the Target FQDN that was given to you.
8. Click Submit to finish.
GoDaddy.com
1. Go to the GoDaddy.com Web site at http://www.godaddy.com.
2. In the My Account section, log on with your GoDaddy.com Customer # and password or with your GoDaddy.com Login name and password, and then click My Account.
3. In the My Products section, click Manage Domains.
4. The Domain Control Center opens. In the Domain Name section, click your domain name.
5. In the Details section, click Total DNS Control and MX Records.
6. On the Total DNS Control Panel page, in the CNAMES (Aliases) section, click Add New CNAME Record.
7. In the Enter an Alias Name section, add the CNAME that was given to you
8. Int eh Points to Host Name section, type in the Target FQDN that was given to you.
9. Click OK to finish
Register.com
1. Go to the Register.com Web site at http://www.register.com.
2. At the top of the page, next to My Account, click Log In. In the resulting Log In page, verify that My Account Manager is selected in the Log In To section, and log on with your Register.com User Name and password.
3. The My Domains & Services page opens. On the My Accounts tab, in the Services for Account section, click your domain name.
4. The information page for your domain opens. Find the Advanced Technical Settings section at the bottom of the page.
5. Click Edit Domain Alias (CNAME).
6. On the Add Domain Aliases (CNAME) page, select an empty row to enter the CNAME record information. If no empty rows are available, click Add more domain aliases.
7. In the left field of an empty row, enter the CNAMe that was given to you
8. Int eh points to field of the same row, enter the Target FQDN that was given to you.
9. Click Continue to finish.
eNom
1. Go to the eNom Central Web site at http://www.enomcentral.com, and click log-in.
2. On the page that opens, log on with your eNom Central Login ID and password.
3. On the My eNom page, in the Account summary section next to Registered domains, click Manage Domains.
4. On the My Domains page, on the My Domains tab, click your domain name.
5. On the Domain Control Panel page, in the Manage Domain menu, select Host Records.
6. In the Edit Host Records section, do one of the following:
· Use the last empty row that has no values for Host Name, Record Type, or Address.
· If no empty rows are available, click new row.
7. In the Host Name section, type The CNAME that was given to you.
8. In the Record Type section select CNAME (Alias).
9. Int eh Address section, type the Target FQDN that was given to you.
10. Click Save.
Network Solutions
1. Go to the Network Solutions Web site at http://www.networksolutions.com.
2. At the top of the page, click Login. In the Account Manager window, log on with your Network Solutions User ID and password.
3. If a What's New from Network Solutions page appears, click Continue.
4. The Account Manager home page opens. In the left-hand pane, click Domains, and then select Manage Domain Names.
5. The Domain Detail page opens. In the Domain Details section, in the Domain currently points to field, do one of the following:
· If the Domain currently points to: field is blank, select Designated DNS, and then click Apply Changes.
· If the Domain currently points to: field says Advanced DNS Settings, click Edit.
6. In the Advanced DNS Manager section of the resulting page, click Manage DNS Records.
7. In the Advanced DNS Manager, in the Host Aliases section, click Add/Edit.
8. In the Alias section type the CNAME that was given to you.
9. In the Other Host section type the Target FQDN.
10. Click GO.
13. Once you have entered all of the required information in to your DNS settings or your hosters settings you will have to wait for 24 to 72 hours for your DNS record to populate.
14. After waiting a suteiable amount of time, bo back to Administration Center, and press the Verify Now button next to the name of the SMTP domain that you added.
15. Press Verify to verify your domain.
16. Press Finish to finish the process.
17. On the Exchange Online tab, verify that your domain now says Verified.
18. You have now successfully verified your SMTP domain.
