This is a very timely post - we're on the verge of getting 700+ new systems in over the next several months and we're wrestling with just how to deploy an image to these bare metal systems.

Having worked with BDD 2007 and Microsoft Deployment, we've finally settled on Microsoft Deployment to create and deploy the initial images to our new systems via PXE on WDS. We've just upgraded our SMS 2003 to SCCM 2007 and were eager to roll everything into SCCM 2007, however we still found that for ease of use and deployment, Microsoft Deployment is the way to go for us.

One more thing I forgot to mention - the manner in which we deploy our new systems fits very well with how Microsoft Deployment w/WDS and PXE work.

Our techs will take a system, say to the 10th floor to deploy. All they need to do is to PXE boot to our image and specify the computer name and the OU to put it in. That's it. Very simple and straightforward. I would love to see this sort of 'option' in SCCM some day.

Great video Michael. Would you be able to expand on the final steps after Web server has been tested. A video showing the steps on creating the Boot media with hook, the TS that needs to created and how it’s advertised. Plus screen shots of the new PC been added to collection and the deployment proceeding.

Yes, great video! I would also like to see the final steps after Web server has been tested. How you create the Boot media with the pre-execution hook, so that you just have to enter a computer name.
