I'm trying to get the VAMT to accept my Windows Server 2008 MAK key (obtained from our MSDN Subscription). The VAMT says it is not a valid product key. Is this a known issue?

Yes, there will be an update for VAMT to work with 2008 MAKs. I can't share a specific date yet but it is coming soon.
