Architect Insight

On the 22nd March 2006 180 architects and 50 speakers descended at the Celtic Manor Resort, Wales for two days of architectural debate and networking at Architect Insight; the first chargeable multi-day multi-track event run by Microsoft in the UK. For me, this was the culmination of much hard work that started out some 8 months earlier when I gained provisional agreement to go ahead with the event.

We ran 4 main tracks and 2 workshops tracks through the two days with key notes from Anthony Saxby (Ms) , Andrew Herbert (Ms), Paul Preiss (IASA) and Martin Fowler (ThoughtWorks) but by far the best thing for me was the interview between Ivar Jacobson and Jon Jacobs that should appear on Ron's ARCast show on Channel 9 any day soon. This was so funny and informative about what Ivar is doing with the Essential Unified Process and smart Methods!

Not that we stopped there - Ron ran another 15 or so interviews with other presenters that will be posted up on his site over the coming weeks or so - worth bookmarking.

So was it a success? I guess I am the last to ask, but I enjoyed myself and that's the best measure in my book ... there was lots to learn for the next time but for me the highlights were:

  • Openness and friendliness of the delegates
  • Ron's interview with Ivar
  • Simon Cox's presentation on High Performance Computing
  • The massive interest in Ms Motion
  • Team foundation demo's

Lowlights were:

  • Internet access was patchy
  • Major professional golf course and no time to play it!

Here's a couple of other comments from the conference I've noticed:

Rob Grigg, Conchango

Joel Jeffery, Capgemini
