Hi Kalle,

Yes, your first statement is correct. Vmware has been doing this for quite a while and Microsoft Hyper-V is 1.0 before August this year.

If Microsoft will be in its third generation when Vmware is in its sixth, well who knows what the future holds? But if this is the case, the one who will benefit from this is the customers of virtualization solutions.

Regardless if you choose Vmware as your solution or Hyper-V, the fact that we are in competition trying to meet customer demand is a good thing for the customers. Everybody has to work harder (and for a better price)!

Hyper-V has gotten great feedback, and yes it is still in pre 1.0 code. Check out this one: http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=1182

About Citrix: Xensource is the company behind Xen hypervisor and Citrix has acquired Xensource. Linux distributions with Xen hypervisor will run optimized on Microsofts Hyper-V. So (some) Linux distributions will run as first citixen just like a windows operating system on Hyper-V. Right now Suse Enterprise Linux 10 is optimized (this is still in beta). You have to install integration components for the operating system to be optimized for Hyper-v.

Best,

Maria
