At the end of last month I had the pleasure of talking with these guys and I must say that they really do have some great solutions and are doing some brilliant work with Live Communication Server.

First of all is ‘Corporate Mobile Messenger’ which allows employees without a Windows Mobile device to connect to Live Communication Server with the same look and feel as Communicator. This will cover phones running Symbian Series 60, RIM Blackberry and Java Micro Edition (J2ME) which should hopefully mean that no matter want phone you are using … you should be able to log into Live Communication Server.

The other subject we discussed was the use of bots, I don't think I can mention it hear officially but if you take a look at the website and the customer logos there then you should be able to guess at what type of bots they are writing e.g. automating ordering processes for consumers perhaps ;-)

When you have a few moments … pop along to www.digitalrum.com and if you are interested in knowing more then give Bernadette Lyons a shout!

Motorola Q

Look out for them on the next episode of Fifth Gear !

MSN Messenger goes 'retro'

Although for quite some time you have been able to make pc-to-pc calls on MSN Messenger and pc-to-phone calls, the big problem with this is that is restricts you to using a clunky headset and microphone and near the PC at the time you want to make the calls.

You will be glad to hear (pun intended) therefore that MSN Messenger compatible phones are now available to buy. Currently the two devices are available from Uniden and Royal Philips Electronics although I would expect other manufacturers to join in as time goes by.

What does this give you then? Put simply it allows the owners of such devices to phone other MSN Messenger users (for free) and other mobiles and landlines (for a small charge) using their internet connection rather than the standard landline, resulting in smaller bills at the end of the month. As soon as these are available in the UK, I plan to switch over to this way of phoning and at the point I can stop paying for a landline at all then I will switch fully over to VOIP.

If I manage to get hold of one of these devices then I will let you all know and tell you how it goes!

'Nokiaberry' anyone?

Meet Nokia’s latest phone, the interestingly named E61 (which might I add is also the name of the road that goes through the Karavanke Tunnel in Slovenia).

Nokia now has three E series devices launched and it looks as if they want to move into ‘business device’ market where both us and Blackberry exist.

As well as taking a look at the pictures below you might also want to take a look at the video here which was recorded on a Windows Mobile 5 device and features excerpts of the UK leg of the race

The more observant of you will also notice that the Co-pilot sponsor the event with T-Mobile and a few other names, enabling every ‘gumballer’ to know where they are going and divert round any obstacles that might get in their way. Isn't Windows Mobile great :-)

Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile is now available for download here where you can get a version for Pocket PC (2003 and Windows Mobile 5) and Smartphone (2003 and Windows Mobile 5) and is free to download.

I have been using this client for quite some time and have found it extremely useful. It allows me to be 'online' when I am out of the office, to check if someone is available to chat to before trying to ring them and it a great way of finding out someone’s phone number when you can’t get to it any other way.

Don’t delay .... download Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile today ;-)

o2 XDA Exec now with Direct Push

I would not normally post about every shiny and new phone thats been launched as Jason does a superb job of this but I thought I would include this one on mine.

Orange has done a really good job of embracing Windows Mobile from day one with the 'SPV Classic' and they have done it again by launching either the first or 'one of the first' Windows Mobile 5 with Direct Push phones into the EMEA market.

Nice one Orange!

Bless its little mobile-cotton socks !

Someone at work sent this to me today ..... makes me feel a little sorry for my Windows Mobile phone

For those of you who have Live Communication Server installed but have not made switch to using Windows Mobile (and why not?) then take a look at the Blackberry website where you can now get hold of a Blackberry client for Live Communication Server.

No matter where, when and what device you are on, you now have access to the rest of your company through Live Communication Server!
