Windows Server 2008 SP2 is the OS of choice at my organization and unfortunately we haven't had time to play around with the R2 version. Virtualization is the way to go nowadays and is a strong player when it comes down to matters of TCO and ROI. We only use Hyper-V and run it on Failover Clustering configurations with very powerful hardware. I'm not really that impressed with hyper-v, it does most of the stuff that VmWare does but does it doesn't really bring anything new to the table? What i do like is SCVMM. The virtual machine manager console is briliant, easy to use and very, very intuitive. Do you have this? What irritates me is having to shutdown a vm to add hardware. On the fly changes would make this product much, much better.

Regards,

specially I've stuck with the downtime and looked a alternate, and play with this new product. I think with good hardware and specially if you concern with the office space as well as remotely manage all thing in one place this is good for you. Where is your location ? I'm in sri lanka. But no issue @ all. Let me know what kind of help you are looking. Then I will try my best to give you a advice.
I'm in Portugal. I have no issues with hyper-v, it works fine!!!

Regarding adding hardware, i was refering to adding resources to the VM: RAM, NIC's, etc... It irritates me having to shutdown the VM to do so. And as all my hyper-V technology is clustered, i also have to enter Failover Cluster management console to make sure the other node doesn't take over the VM and boot it back in to life... It's a bit time consuming....

Yes. True. But when I have lot of issues with virtualisation. Specially when I trying with vmware esx also, their specific hardware requirements and also and with the t & C with company budget. I stuck. When compared with OS and virtual environment I can confidently say I'm fine.

re: Hyper-V in Windows Server 2008 R2 turned out as the most cost effective solution for Amila

Hi Eduardo,
