A few myths around IPsec

Whenever we speak about IPsec a few myths came around

“It will cipher all traffic” – Well, IPsec can cipher all traffic if we want, otherwise we can use IPsec just to authenticate.

“I need a PKI to use IPsec” – The authentication method used by IPsec can be Kerberos V5, Public Key certificate or preshared key.

IPsec is for Windows Only OS – IPsec is a standard, so it can used against other OS than Windows. Here there is an example

IPsec will add a lot of traffic – Take a look here

IPsec will increase CPU usage on my computers - If we are using heavy algorithms to cipher data we may want to use Hardware-based IPsec task offload
