After you install SP1 for Operations Manager 2007..... what's next?

1.  Check the Operations Manager event logs.... look for any major issues.

2.  Inspect all the services (SDK and HealthService) on all OpsMgr servers - make sure they are running.

3.  Check the DB version to make sure it was upgraded successfully.

4.  UPDATE YOUR MANAGEMENT PACKS.  The core system MP's will update to 6.0.6278.0 automatically.  However - the optional MP's will not.  You must update these manually.  The most current version for SP1 will be on the SP1 media, in the \ManagementPacks directory.  Also - new MP's will start releasing to the OpsMgr catalog.  Many of the older MP's are not fully compatible with SP1, and need to be updated where applicable.

5.  UPDATE YOUR AGENTS.  There is a known issue with older version agents reporting to a SP1 management server:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941811/en-us   If you were running RTM - yours agents can be upgraded in Pending Management.  If you were running RC-SP1 - you can update your agents by viewing "Agent Managed", sort by "Version" and then multi-select agents, and choose "Repair".  This is similar to approving a Pending Management request.  Typically you can do 200 agents at a time.... depending on your environment.

# A memory leak occurs if an agent of the release version of Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 reports to System Center Operations Manager 2007 Service Pack 1 management servers

Bottom line: After upgrading your server to SCOM 2007 SP1, upgrade your agents from RTM to SP1 or they will leak 4MB of memory a day. Read more about it here. Originally posted here.

Every week I see one customer running into an issue where they either see the management servers or agents

hi,

i'm using opsmgr sp1 server and agents, after installing the last hotfixs : 950853, 951979, 951380 all agents need to be approved.

BUT, i'm having problems to approve servers in a DMZ environment, becouse of RPC failure with error code 800706BA. the only port that is open on the FW is the agent port.

is there an option to update the agents manualy ?  what are the consequences if i choose reject ?

Yes - you can update them manually.  Simply reject the update for the ones in a DMZ... no consequences.  Then patch these systems manually.

951979 is a MP only update - so no manual agent patching required.

If you are applying both 950853, and 951380... those both update the same file, so only 951380 needs to be applied manually.
