Much of that frustration was misplaced and was a hold over of the HTC Touch Pro I now have boxed and ready for return. What lowered my frustration with the Omnia?

re: Verizon Samsung Omnia - first impressions

Great, informative review. My VZW Omnia is supposed to arrive tomorrow. I'm looking forward to getting it. I'm moving from my Treo 700p. I looked at the Storm but chose the Omnia. Thanks for all of your info and tips.

re: Verizon Samsung Omnia - first impressions

i just got the htc pro and hate it....thinking about switching to omnia...the htc has less than 1gb internal storage and causes it to lag when using touchflo.....can you tell me what the typing is like on omnia....youtube compatible....and how did you change external buttons

re: Verizon Samsung Omnia - first impressions

Why, why, why lock the gps Verizon? My location on google maps doesn't even work using cell towers.

re: Verizon Samsung Omnia - first impressions

S. My VZW Omnia handles the data I need to use and it's fast. I miss having a hard keyboard and the VZ Navigator lock had better get broken soon.

So far, though, after 15 hours? I like it.

Typing is really hard to get used to. Just don't use the stylus when calibrating if you use your fingers.

Scrolling is great, it could scroll faster, but I love that it keeps going til you tap again. Battery life you have reported is a bit longer than mine, but I abuse my phones life harshly. Voice command is handy, once you learn it and call quality is excellent. Coming from the 6800 and its CONSTANT problems I am very happy and have only "broken" my Omnia twice.

In your comments regarding dialing from the contact list it seems like you never tried dialing directly from the phone keypad. I've been using smart phones/PDA phones for over 6 or 7 years now and have over 2700 contact numbers saved. The Omnia has the fastest/easiest way to dial than any phone I've ever used. All you have to do is type in any combo of characters from your contacts and it will find it instantly and then you can press send or click the contact name for more info. It's 1000% better than trying to dial on an iPhone!

re: Verizon Samsung Omnia - NO GPS w/Google????!!!!!!!!!

No GPS w/Google is one of the most frustrating complaints with the Omnia. The only reason it doesn't work is Verizon --- what a joke!!! If enough people go w/competitors that don't lock it down maybe they will change their mind!

re: Verizon Samsung Omnia - first impressions

Ken,

I thought the software keyboard that ships with the Omnia is very nice. Especially after I figured out how to use it properly. Regarding the phone keypad, it's really easy to use. But I also have a lot of contacts who I don't have telephone numbers memorized. Voice Command really came in handy for those folks. I highly recommend learning to use it.
