I call foul here. Windows indicates it's running in 32 bit mode yet also reports 4 gig of system memory, which is impossible. What's up Keith? Did you Photoshop this? ;-)

No, that's the change they did with Vista SP1 to report the total installed memory instead of the total available memory. Which is of course different.

The 32 bit image is the factory image. I will flatten it in the next couple of weeks and install Vista Enterprise x64 and see how the driver support is on the 64 bit platform. I know from my brief install of Windows Server 2008 it's already pretty good.

Apparently my laptop is faster than I thought, I'm scoring a 5.1 with a Dell XPS M1530, so that actually stacks up pretty well it looks like, right?

About the 4GB thing, I'm glad they changed that with SP1, when I got my new notebook and it was reporting less than the 4GB I had ordered I was a little confused till I looked into it, glad Microsoft decided to change that.

Is there a large performance difference when switching to 64 bit? I am running Vista SP1 32 Bit but was thinking about switching to 64 bit but I haven't heard anything about the difference in performance.

I switched from 32 bit to 64 bit last year due to the (pre SP1) problem of having 4 gig installed but only able to access 3.2. I can't really tell if it's any faster or not but all my scores are maxed out at 5.9 (other than cpu which is 5.2, darn 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo) and they wern't when I was running 32 bit.

I certainly have the impression of a wicked fast machine. Everything happens instantly which is one of the things I love about Vista (at least on this box... not so much on my 3ghz P4 with 1 gig on memory but even that is acceptable)

I predicted two years ago that Vista would have a hard time because XP was so good but I for one give kudos to Microsoft for Vista.
