Will the general public be able to get "FULL" Windows Vista SP1 ISO's as well? I would really like to be able to install a SP1 machine from scratch also.

Thanks,

Chad Wagner

re: Vista SP1 "Update" now available

Chad, the answer is no. Only volume license, TechNet and MSDN subscriber customers will have access to the FULL version of Windows Vista SP1.

Which brings up an interesting question. Assuming we did make it available, would you be willing to flatten your machine and burn a Windows Vista activation? That's what would be required to use it.

I, for one, plan on treating SP1 like every other substantial upgrade Microsoft has ever released and doing the smart thing, flattening and reinstalling. This means slipstreaming my own Vista image -- I'd rather pull an ISO then do it manually, less chance of error.

re: Vista SP1 "Update" now available

Keith, I would have no problem blowing my machine out and burning an activation. I do a lot of tinkering and hardware upgrading so I am used to the late night phone call to Microsoft for re-activation. I also own the Full retail version of Ultimate, for my main gaming rig so I am not concerened about running out of activations since I keep my usage within the EULA.

My main desire for full SP1 installation media is that, in my experience, on the three machines I have recently flattened (two conversions to x64 with valid licenses, and one re-install for my parents on a new HD with a valid licence) is that Vista takes about 15 minutes to install and then SP1 can take 20 - 35 minutes longer. It would be nice to lay down the SP1 image in 15 minutes.

BTW - SP1 is a very noticeable improvement over RTM. I am very happy with it.

Thanks,
