How about a $10,000 Dell laptop?

m6400

Ok, this probably doesn’t qualify as a laptop.  But if you have money to blow and want the latest and greatest 17” machine on the market, what do you get?  How about the coveted Dell Precision M6400 Covet?  Here’s a sample shopping cart from the Dell buying site of one of the machines loaded with 16GB of memory.  I want it.  Someone buy me one.

I'd take half that machine...

That videocard is too nice to give up though.

How long befoe this machine is 2 grand? As fast as computer technology develops and becomes outdated.

Core i7 is out soon...

Yea, it's pretty outragiously priced.  They are asking way too much for the 16GB of memory. Dell wants $3900 to go from 2GB to 16GB of memory.  That's nearly $1000 per 4GB SoDIMM.  Are they freaking crazy? It should be more like $200 per 4GB.

But will it run Server 2008 w/Hyper-V or SBS 2008?

Weird... under Small Business the option for memory is only 2 or 4 gig.  It only shows up under Large Business.  I guess SMB folks don't much care for being overcharged $800 per memory chip... :-)
