I Spy the Windows XP SP3 download

XP3 download

I noticed this morning that Windows XP SP3 is now on the TechNet subscriber download area. See my download from Akamai above.  To the best of my knowledge, the bits are being provided to TechNet and MSDN subscribers ahead of just about everyone else this time around.  This is a direct result of your feedback during the Windows Vista SP1 rollout or lack thereof. 

This is also a direct result of Viral Tarpara and myself raising the red flag, and Christine Betts for helping get this accomplished.  For the moment it's the patch for existing systems.  I'll see if I can find out when the fully integrated Windows XP disks might be posted.  Here's a snip of the download description.  Enjoy.

Are you trying to rain on my happy parade?  :?)

Interesting point though.  How fast is your internet connection and how long does it take to download a 500MB file?  It takes me about 8 minutes.  That's an average for the HTTP protocol.  I was doing a multi session FTP download a couple of days ago and it was about three times that fast.

Technet in Australia doesn't have it available, at least nothing in my subscription. Is it only being rolled out to certain subscriptions to start with?

Actually I take that back, it is available just poorly visible. It doesn't appear in the downloads but as a link hidden amongst the rest of the stuff on the home page.

I agree finding or discovering stuff is hard.  I am also not a fan of the new navigation panes for the download area.

SP3 for XP? Sounds great but what's this I hear from Steve B. that Xp will be phased out starting June 30?

My computer is not Vista compatiable. I don't plan on getting a new computer any time soon.

I think this is a horrible blunder on Microsoft's part.

I think if they put a survey up on the microsoft home page Steve would awake to realization that Xp runs better than Vista and on more computers. Why do they want to do this to their customers?

Good question.  Let me ask a couple.  They will make it sound like I am over simplifying the issue but there are many angles to this.

First, what are you running hardware wise right now and when did you buy it?  How do you get support for your hardware today?

Second, how many times have you called Microsoft for support in the past 5 years?  For most poeple I bet the answer is none.  The support they get from us is via the updates that flow off microsoft.com.

And the last question, when do you plan to buy another computer?

Keith, Do you know what category this will be in WSUS?  IE7 was an Update Rollup and not part of the Critical and Security updates package.  Just want to make sure this doesn't get automatically aproved on my network.
