Breaking the VOIP Barrier - Shell

Further to the Voicecon Announcement, more and more stories are coming out about organisations using Microsoft Technology to break the VOIP barrier.

This story in NetworkWorld highlights what Shell, the oil giant is doing in this space.

It is a really interesting read, the quote "Ultimately, we don't see the need for separate IP telephony" sums up the Microsoft vision.

Shell intend to migrate  hundreds of disparate PBX's in 110 countries to OCS. The servers will all be centralised into three data centres.

The piece I really like is towards the end and is made by Johan Krebbers - the Group IT architect for Shell . He hits the nail right on the head with the quote:-

"Our whole desire is to bring work to people not people to work,"
