Someone Hacked my Phone

Recently I was surfing the internet looking for some java apps for my new phone (Sony Ericsson W580i) when I came across a very interesting find. The application in question is called Super Bluetooth Hack v1.07.

"Super Bluetooth Hack v1.07, hack any one's cellphone via blue tooth Once connected to a another phone via bluetooth you can: - read his messages - read his contacts - change profile - play his ringtone even if phone is on silent - play his songs(in his phone) - restart the phone - switch off the phone - restore factory settings - change ringing volume - And here comes the best Call from his phone" it includes all call functions like hold etc. Notes: 1.) When connecting devices use a code 0000 2.) At start of programm on smartphones do not forget to turn on bluetooth before start of the mobile"

Having tried this application out on my friend’s phone (with his permission of course) I found out that it does exactly what it says on the tin. From a security standpoint the application at present does require the user to accept the connection and input a passcode to connect. However coming from an IT security background I always attempt to identify what a malicious person could do with any type of application I use. In the case of this application if someone malicious managed to bypass the authentication and user acceptance functions of Bluetooth security using bluesnarfing or one of the following methods:

They could in essence use this applications to have the phone owners phone dial a defined premium toll number of their choosing without the phone owner’s knowledge or permission. This is one of many possible avenues’ open using the functions of this app.

All I know is that after having seen what I could do on his phone while it was in his hand my non technical friend has now disabled Bluetooth on his phone and only turns it on when needed. As have I.
