NOW LIVE: Microsoft's New Social App for MSDN, TechNet, and Expression Sites

Microsoft is opening up the MSDN, TechNet, and Expression sites to the worldwide technical community. Social bookmarking is an important element of our vision, enabling technical professionals to easily share their web favorites, find and connect with each other, and publish community-generated content directly to our sites.

In May, we released a preview of our social bookmarking application. Today, we released v1.0 of social bookmarking for MSDN, TechNet, and Expression.

Renamed "Social" (e.g., "TechNet Social"), v1.0 offers social bookmarking and provides several important new capabilities including:

  • Subscribing to People or Tags
  • Better Profile Integration
  • Browsing and Finding Users
  • Bookmark Import Tools
  • Bookmarking Widgets
  • Availability in English + 11 Languages

Together with our social platform, the new social application creates a lot of cool and valuable scenarios - Chris Slemp has blogged in more detail on the new features and produced several new videos on getting started. Taylor Parsons also blogged on how our new social feeds are put together and how you can create your own feeds using our social application and use them on your sites.

Here also, are some new videos that provide an overview of the various apps and features on our sites:

Also included in this release are several enhancements to our site search, including a preview of MSDN Code Search, which extends MSDN Search with specialized features for finding code on various Microsoft sites. With the preview, MSDN Code Search will find code in the MSDN Library. Future releases of the feature will include MSDN Code Gallery, MSDN Forums, and more. For more details on MSDN Code Search, including tips and techniques for how to search for code, see Rob Veliz's blog.

So, please have a look at all the new things and let us know what you think by commenting on this blog or talking with us in the Social Bookmarking forum or Search forum.

To help us all stay in touch better, we have also launched new Facebook pages for MSDN, TechNet, and Expression. These are the pages you want to follow - we will be merging members of several other related Facebook groups into these pages, so become a fan!

And finally, if you're on Twitter, you can also stay up-to-date with the latest news on our sites by following our new MSDN and TechNet accounts.
