TechEd 2007 Day 0...
Well I'm here on the sunny Gold Coast for Teched 2007 and what is the start of a busy 2 weeks. I'm presenting at TechEd Australia and New Zealand so busy times ahead. I'm also participating in Virtual TechEd, a media interview or two and spending time in the TechNet Lounge.
So this time I decided to fly Virgin Blue which was fine except they charged me $85.00 excess baggage fee for my road case that my server equipment is in. So much for the cheap fare!
The flight was uneventful and I happened to share a cab with a delegate which was cool. He felt like he had his own welcoming party.
I arrived at the Conrads Jupiter Casino which is where most people are staying which is fine but the Internet access is crap here. Oh well them's the breaks.
I got all my bags delivered to the room which is where the fun began. I proceeded to open the case below.

And things are looking good so far...

Then I pulled the server out of the case and noticed that screws were rattling around inside. Uh oh..This is not good..Houston we have a problem. So I opened the case and found one of the hard drives had come loose and screws had fallen out. So it looked bad for a moment at least..

I had to call down to reception and see if they had an screwdrivers handy as I left mine at home. After a call to the IT department in the hotel a dude turned up and I had the tools I needed. I now needed some stronger screws to hold the hard drive in place. So I headed over to the convention center to see if anyone had some screws. None about but they are looking. I managed to get the hard drive back in and the server is working fine at the moment. Still need more screws for the trip home...

All setup and ready to go..
So while I was at the convention center I picked up my badge...

And speaker shirt...Like the handprint...

Apparently we're getting a laptop bag with this on it as well..
