Can you blame them?
InformationWeek also had an article about an IDC study on the slow growth of IT -- that IT spending is plagued by "good enough" computing. Seems that business managers are asking why they need new IT spend if they can get the same business result from existing investments. Can you blame them? If you were investing in growing your business, wouldn't you want to know that you have fully employed your assets? IT vendors are going to have to prove in financial terms how new technologies are going to not only enable new business growth but also why new IT spend will improve the cost structure of existing businesses. If the total cost of ownership can't be shown to be less with new incremental spend, then why would anyone spend the money?
