Look at Linux, BSD/Mac OSes, they are doing fine without all that.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;What brought me here is a similar problem in WinXP, and by the looks of things this issue will never be resolved, since windows has the habit to pull those drive letters out of Bill Gates' ass.&lt;/p&gt;
