Inside ConfigMgr 07 Operating System Deployment

ConfigMgr Client Package

One of the packages you need for an operating system deployment is a ConfigMgr 2007 client package.  This package simply contains the setup files for the ConfigMgr client, which will be installed once Windows setup has completed.  This package does not require a program.

The ConfigMgr 2007 client package must be manually created prior to creating an Operating System Deployment task sequence.  The source directory for this package should be the "Client" folder in the ConfigMgr 2007 installation folder on your site server.  In other words, the source directory for the ConfigMgr 2007 client package should be the folder containing ccmsetup.exe.

For example, if you installed ConfigMgr 2007 to "C:\ConfigMgr", then the source directory for the ConfigMgr 2007 client package would be "C:\ConfigMgr\Client".

One of the most common mistakes people make when creating this package is to point the source directory to the folder containing Client.msi ("C:\ConfigMgr\Client\I386" using our previous example).  This causes the ConfigMgr client installation to fail during the operating system deployment process.
