I was in the car on the way home from the team hike when Jim (my manager) suggested to me I start this blog. I like writing, I did it almost for a living, so it made sense. And so here we are and here we go.
What am I going to blog? What's it about? Good question, we'll figure it out properly as we get warmed up. Right now, I'm aiming to give a perspective on what it's like to develop a search engine on our team, ship great products fast, and what I do day to day most days at work. As a new Microsoft hire -- I've been here about 6 months -- I'll also try and get to the core of what the culture's like from first impressions, what it's like to be a developer here, and why I believe we're on the road to success. I'll also give you some insight into why I took the path from researcher to software engineer, and from being an evangelist for Open Source software (for example, I wrote this book) to being a Microsoft guy.
So, that's the introduction. Tomorrow, I'll get started on the story. Right now, we're 10 days out from a key milestone for the product I'm building, we've got some new team members joining, interns finishing up, and we're focusing on the road ahead. I'll explain more then...
