I am a huge Home Theatre fan as well who owns a 1080i HDTV that does NOT have HDMI or DVI. As my Mitsubishi 65" Platinum Plus display is 6 years old now I would like to wait untill HDMI 1.3 is standard before buying my next HDTV display ( Mitsubishi 73" DLP most likely ). And I have a two year old Denon receiver , the 3805 which has Component switching but not HDMI. So my hope is that I will receive full 1080i res. over my component connections for the next few years untill I am ready to upgrade to all HDMI 1.3 equipment. Thats my comment #1 and I know it affects my friends with Home Theatres in the same way as well as many who havbe new or fairly new equipment that they spent large sums of money for and who are feeling "left out" on the NEXT GEN DVDs. I have one more comment to anyone who has say on HD-DVD disc releases. GET THE LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY EXTENDED VERSIONS OUT ON HD-DVD IN THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE QUALITY.

    Thank you.

It came with Peter Jacksons King Kong , looks excellent , not sure if the audio is quite as good as the video at this point. The system was delivering 1080i to my display through the X360's Analog Component outputs and I was very happy with that. I am now buying New Release Movies in the HD DVD format when possible. I still have one comment on HD DVD vs. BLU-RAY. Getting the HD DVD optical drive out for the X360 was very important in my opinion for HD DVD's future in this format war. Good job HD DVD!! Now get the LORD OF THE RINGS EXTENDED VERSIONS ON HD DVD in as high a quality as possible and get them out before BLU-RAY. Along with Star Wars these movies are loved by the PC , Home Theater , gaming , geek squad guys as any movies , STRIKE FIRST HD DVD!!

Incredible, sharp, clear, crisp picture. "Kudos" and hats off to Microsoft for making this possible!

I purchased a Samsung 61" DLP set with full 1080p capability and also felt a little down knowing that i would not be able to fully realize the picture possibilities with just component connection. But Microsoft also has a VGA Hi Def cable that will connect to your PC input on the back of your television if it is so equipped! It even comes with male to female adapters, so i connected the cable and there it was all the resolutions all the way up to 1920x 1080 WOW!

So i went out and purchased the Mission impossible pack with all three movies,Batman Begins,Serenity,The Chronicles of Riddick and i have the Hulk reserved and coming out on Tuesday!

The 360 peripheral will not be available in Australia until March, although movies will be coming out this week. As you can no doubt imagine, I can not wait until March to play these movies!!!

At $500, it was a steal considering that Blu-Ray players are currently running between $1500 and $1000. Blu-Ray is way too expensive and offeres no real advantages over HD-DVD. My only objection is that Toshiba is not being aggressive enough in promoting the HD-DVD format.

But in turn I wish the advancement of sound would come with it as well and I am talking DTS digital theater systems far superior to dolby digital. You would think the price we have been paying for the H.D. VERSIONS it would also include DTS. Especially all of us that switched right to it. And last but not least all the more that would come over to it if all were remastered in DTS as well dolby digital. Just my thoughts.......

Takes way too long to load your DVD and start playing. Serenity played throught ok the first time, but the second time around, it got out of sync with the sound. Never did fix it. Swapped it out for the demo at the store only to experience the same problems. Was told to get hold of an upgrade disc which I tried to download from Toshibas site. Only could download to 60 percent then would stop. Finally tossed in the towel and returned the unit for a full refund. I love the quality of HD DVD but am going to wait until all the bugs are out.

Well the war between B.R. and H.D. time will tell from what I see H.D. is winning. All the movie fans out there as well home theaters now in homes we have to wait and see who wins the format war between the two. So now I see that companies LG is one are bringing out players that will play both formats. I went with H.D. if you have the right set up at home it is a highly recommended up grade {x box 360 if you have one get the add on well worth it} May 2007 be a great year for H.D. dvd.

I am sorry you are dissatisfied with the product, with the quality, and with life in general is seems. However, I was able to update my XA-1 updated like a dream and the quality of the image on my Westinghouse 1080p 42 inch LCD is better than anything I have ever seen...

So, bitch, whine, and moan all you like... maybe you can trade in the A2 for an XA-1. Maybe you should buy a BlueRay player... Or maybe you just like to complain... I know what would fix the problem as you ask... to shut up and put your money where you *think* the future lies. Why did you buy a HD-DVD player in the first place? Go out and buy that Blue Ray, from all of us here... please... and just go away...

Hmmm.. tried everything then called Toshiba. Got thru on the second try and was informed I needed a firmware update... Told tech that I did not have access to the internet and would need a disc. He said he would order and I should receive in 7 to 10 days... Ha........ Also learned that the Toshiba would not upconvert regular DVD's that had a certain encryption, which seems to be every one of the 150 DVD's I own. Hmmmmmmmmm.... I am having to have the unit hooked up via component cables, at least I get 1080i. It is now over two weeks and all I have received from Toshiba is a packing slip saying they are sending a HD Firmware update.... but no disc... Hmmmmmmmmmm..... I should have just taken the unit back, got my money back, and waited this thing out. As to my take on the picture and sound from the A2. Well.. to be honest... with my Samsung I could have the picture fill up the HD screen if so desired, although one had to lose some picture due to cropping of the sides which is OK since most of the picture action is centered in a film. One can not do the zoom like this in HD, the closest I have found is on a couple of Warner Brothers discs but the lowest zoom is 2 times which is much to much for a 2.35 movie on a 16:9 TV screen... Oh well.. live and learn. Also.... the 1080i HD DVD picture I am getting through the component inputs on the TV is not discernably better in any way shape or form, than the upconverted 720P picture I was getting from my Samsung Upconverted DVD player. As to sound.... I have always found DTS to be not as punchy in the bass area as Dolby Digital. However, due to the infinite wisdom of the HD DVD developers, the sound from the Toshiba player is forced into DTS on all HD DVD discs. I only get the Dolby Digital from regular DVD's. Hmmmmmmmm.... I sometimes think that HD DVD and Bluray are more of a scam on the public than it appears. As I have said, comparing HD DVD movies to DVD movies on my two players has not shown me a difference that has had me shouting whoooopie from my windows. Maybe, just maybe, I will be more impressed when I finally receive the firmware update and can hook up the player using to the DVI input of my set, or maybe down the line when I have enough dollars to buy a set with 1080P, maybe then I will be able to join in the shouts of joy over HD DVD. I hope HD DVD wins the war over Blu Ray, I lost in the VHS vs Beta war as I supported Beta..... OH well... live and learn. I swore I would never buy new technology again till it was out at least three years..... well... no sense being stupid unless one can show the world how stupid one is..... Live and learn......
