Groove Hotfix released, addresses two key issues

We just released a hotfix for Groove to address two annoying problems:

First, we've changed the account restore behavior.  In Grove 2007 (and even the older Groove clients) account backups had a shelf life.  If the account backup was > 60 days old, the account could not be imported.  We've fixed that now so you can import older accounts.  SInce duplicate id's can be a pain, its a huge benefit to have an easy account restoration process.

The second issue only applies to customers that are using the auto-account configuration feature on the Groove Manager.  The feature lets you setup your infrastructure so groove users are automatically provisioned without having to enter configuration codes, etc. We've fixed a problem where that auto-config failed, and users couldn't complete the configuration step.  If you use the auto-config feature, you probably want this fix.

To get the hotfix, you need to contact support and they will provide the update for you.  These fixes will also be in the upcoming SP, when released.  If you are encountering the above problems, though, you want to start with the hotfix.

Some additional information:

"A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next 2007 Microsoft Office service pack that contains this hotfix.
To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services telephone numbers and information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

It sounds good... However duplicate IDs are a pain anyway. I for example have a few workspaces and a friend who's accessing all of those.

Even though the invitation to join the workspaces was sent to the same account, every time I open Groove it complains of conflicts. I can Verify him, by renaming his handle in each workspace, but there's no way to simply check a box saying "These are all the same person".

A pain, if you ask...

#1. Account restores: Used to expire after 60 days and could not be imported. This hotfix allows account backups older than 60 days to be used. #2. Fixes cases where auto configuration fails. Right now it isn't a public hotfix but there is suppose

I have one users who took a while to upgrade from 3 to 2007. 2007 wouldn't let him import his old workspaces. I attempted to to resend him invites to several of our workspaces. His system will not allow him to accept an invite to an older format Groove 3 workspaces that we still have and use. The only invites that worked were the newer Groove 2007 workspaces. We no longer have anyone relying on Groove 3, so I am willing to upgrade those workspaces...but I can't find any way to do that.

Will the hot fix solve this users issues?

Who exactly do we contact about getting the hot fix?

Why isn't it available publicly as a hot fix?

When I run "Check for Updates", nothing!!

(Sorry, but I also am finding at this point that moving over to a combination of FolderShare and BaseCamp might be less of a support burden)

Are they going to fix the issue where 64 bit Operating Systems cannot use file sharing workspaces?  Is there a list of items scheduled to be addressed with the SP?  Along with no "Send to OneNote" print driver, I'm very disappointed with MS for not getting 2007 products ready for Vista.  It's this lack of attention to detail that makes it hard for me to advocate Groove to clients.
