Take a look at this website: www.sbsoffer.com

From September 1, 2007 to December 31, 2007, the on-site services you may already provide to customers to deploy Microsoft® Windows® Small Business Server 2003 R2 could make you eligible to receive some great rewards.

You can choose from either of the following for every SBS you deploy!

You need to submit your valid Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 Certificate of Authenticity or Volume License Number and then upload, fax or mail your deployment services invoice.

This is not just of US but UK and many other counties are included.

* For support engineers this can be a good value add that they can provide the consultants calling in.

# Anup said on October 27, 2007 10:53 PM:

As Microsoft resellers, our client in USA has SBS 2003 Prem for the lat few years. R2 was released after that.

What are the benefits to upgrading them to R2?

How do we obtain R2?

How much does it cost?

What i the upgrade path or how is the upgrade done from SBS03 to SBS03R2?

Does such upgrade qualify for the above offer?

Thanks,

Anup

Hi Anup,

Thanks for visiting my blog.

We need to start off by knowing SBS from this page;

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/sbs/default.mspx

Further you will get most of your questions answered from the FAQs;

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/sbs/evaluation/faq/prodinfo.mspx

Q. What is Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2?

A. Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 (SBS 2003 R2) is an upgrade release to the award-winning SBS 2003 product. It provides enhancements to the core product technologies integrated into SBS 2003 and adds new features to address the growing needs of small businesses. As with SBS 2003, the new release will be available in Standard and Premium Editions.

If you are looking for a more granular detail then have a look at these links;

http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/sbs2003r2.asp

http://www.networkworld.com/reviews/2006/073106-microsoft-smb-server-test.html

Both the sites do a fair comparison between SBS 2003 and R2 and being a 3rd party website they have an outsider point of view.

To answer your second question about cost. I won't be able to tell you the exact cost because it may wary with region, reseller, time, etc.

Take a look at this link:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/sbs/howtobuy/pricing.mspx

How can you upgrade? Again it depends on how some key things like software assurance, OEM and other;

Question number one under Pricing and Licensing should answer your question;

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/sbs/evaluation/faq/prodinfo.mspx#EYBAC

If you are looking for a technical answer, then read this

http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServerSolutions/SBS/en/library/aa219b60-00c2-47cc-9c2c-5f755abaf6981033.mspx?mfr=true

From the Windows Small Business Server Technical Library. You can also look at SBS Tech Centre: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sbs/default.aspx

Would you be eligible for the above offer if you upgrade? You should be. But I can't be sure.

I would strongly recommend you read the FAQs before taking the upgrade and the tech lib if you have technical questions.

They will answer most of your questions and if you have more then feel free to ask me.
