Scary - kids on the internet
My niece and nephew have got messenger accounts and broadband and often say hi when they are online. It amazes me how cool it is that it is so easy for me to keep in touch with people who are hundreds of miles away (and we are definitely closer to them as a result). What it does make me think about though is how they need to understand the risks and how to behave sensibly.
Last year I presented on internet safety to loads of school kids as part of the Get Safe Online campaign - and it was alarming how many had been contacted by strangers - and it really made me think (especially as I am now a parent).
Striking the balance between letting your kids use all this amazing stuff to develop new relationships but in a safe way is going to be a major part of our parenting now I guess. Its no longer safe for kids to just not get into strangers' cars!
