Exchange and Windows Server Updates - Inetinfo repeatedly crashes

On Saturday we released two updates.  One is for Exchange 2003 and one is for Windows 2000 SMTP.

This fixes an issue where the Inetinfo.exe repeatedly crashes and restarts.

You may see the following errors:

Event ID: 7031
Description:
The IIS Admin Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this <x> time(s).

This also happened to a server I had running stable for about a month. It coincided with a bunch of "code red / nimda" type hacking attempts via port 80. I thought the iis metabase was corrupted and was dreading the uninstall / reinstall of iis / exchange 2k03. Do you know what prompted the release of this patch? I was thinking this was some kind of DOS attack, since when I shut off port 80 on the firewall, it seemed to stay up longer.

Thanks,

I agree that the KB article is not specific as to the issue, but the details of bugs are not usually made public. However, I can assure you that any attempt to bring down the server on port 80 did not have anything to do with this fix. The reduced load on the server may have helped the situation.

I have a customer with this problem, but he runs Exchange 2000. If i try to install the patch from 885264 it says this can only be done on Exchange 2003 ?

Do you have a patch for Win2K /Exchange 2K ?

Thanks
