On a computer that is running Microsoft Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3), you try to open an Office file that contains a damaged AutoShape object. When you do this, you cannot open the file. Additionally, you receive an error message that resembles the following error message:

# Microsoft Automated Troubleshooting has encountered a runtime error and cannot proceed (517)

I'm trying to engage Mr. Fixit to fix things and instead of fixing things I'm getting messages such as the above. If I can't use automated troubleshooting to fix errors due to runtime problems and there are no further instructions about how to fix this runtime error.............then I can't fix anything.

When I type in the above I get an error message that there is no such error message

I have tried repeatedly to install SP3, to no avail. I have followed all the instructions, but it still won't install. Now the Fix it for me, won't work either. What is wrong? This is very frustrating.

Sincerely,
