The Quest Management Pack for Oracle is now available!
What is it?
The Quest Management Pack for Oracle (“QMP for Oracle”) provides the Operations Manager user / administrator “vital signs” availability and performance monitoring support for Oracle 9i and 10g databases deployed on their managed resources. The QMP for Oracle will support Oracle instances deployed on Windows hosts through the native Windows Operations Manager agent. The QMP for Oracle will include various observations and metrics sufficient to provide essential availability and exception information, including:
· Performance indicators such as: CPU utilization, I/O statistics and Memory usage for the database
· Database availability (database is up and users can connect)
· Listener availability
· Free space for Archive logging
· Free space for table space growth
· Alert log processing
· Verification that essential services are running
In addition to the various observations, rules and events required to provide this coverage, the QMP for Oracle also provides related knowledge topics, and in-context launch of the Spotlight on Oracle product (if installed to the Operations Console host).
The QMP for Oracle is available in two editions – one that supports the prior version of Operations Manager (MOM 2005) and one that supports the current version (System Center Operations Manager 2007).
What are the Key Benefits?
Leverage Existing Investments for Quicker ROI
Leverage Operations Manager to monitor the Oracle database with no additional monitoring framework required. Native integration allows operations administrators to automatically discover Oracle database instances and view Oracle availability and performance information in the same manner as they view the operational health and performance indicators from the operator console state view in Operations Manager. Diagnostic information is collected only on those transactions that are performing poorly. Event throttling minimizes impact to the database due to excessive performance and failure events.
Increased Staff Efficiency
Operational staff can proactively collaborate with DBA team to ensure critical issues are resolved before they impact the business. Eliminate the finger-pointing that often occurs when outages paralyze an organization.
Proactive Root Cause Diagnostics
Monitor the Oracle database environment in real time and be alerted of performance issues such as degradation of database availability. Detect problems before they affect end users or impact OLAs by leveraging a single management tool. With an in-context launch of the Spotlight on Oracle, product administrators can drill down into root cause diagnostics from the event and alert views (if installed to the Operations Console host).
Improved Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR)
Speed time to resolution by isolating specific availability issues in the Oracle database environment. Gather information on blocking locks, cache & I/O performance metrics, and memory statistic degradation. Integration with Quest’s Spotlight on Oracle allows DBAs to perform deeper diagnostics to rapidly resolve performance issues.
Centralized Database Reporting and Trending
Centralize task management including control of monitoring and reporting. Inform database development team of highly problematic areas in database environment. Validate database availability and reliability with trend analysis.
Coming Soon
· Both Quest Management Pack for Oracle editions (Operations Manager 2005 and the Operations Manager 2007) will support Oracle monitoring in Unix / Linux environments later in Q407.
· Quest’s System Center Solutions area (we will be building out our full System Center story in preparation for Microsoft’s TechEd ITForum in Barcelona – November 2007).
