# re: Are you ready for Exchange 12?

No, I'm not ready for E12. I cannot install a 64-bit OS and run my existing Exchange 2003 server. When E12 comes out, I cannot run it on my current 32-bit OS server. Catch-22. I will have to do some interesting sleight-of-hand to upgrade to E12. On that note alone, I say *phooey* on E12. I have no upgrade path other than to completely wipe an existing server for E12 or purchase new hardware. Neither choice is palatable.

I'd love to test it out... if Microsoft is willing to provide a test server to go with it. I agree with the other poster, the down side of you guys going 64bit only with this release is that we have limited means to test a deployment right now.

I, on the other hand, do have plans to upgrade to 64bit by the end of 2007, but until then there's little chance of it being a reality for me.

Looking for someone to assist with the installation of E12 CTP1 x86...  I have MMC3.0 installed but the setup.exe keeps telling me that its not installed, go download and install it..  somewhat frustrating to say the least!

I am ready for Exchange 12. I budgeted for New Hardware for Q4 FY2006. and have budgeted for disks for the SAN.

Have been doing all the webcasts and will be at TechEd and have signed up the hands on Exchange 12 course.

I was a DECie and seeded many of the 64-bit Alphas. Been waiting for 64-bit.

# re: Are you ready for Exchange 12?

We are running on 64bit hardware for quite a while but the applications that run on 64bit software are aren't that widespread.
When exchange 12 is available we will be upgrading.

To: jeff honey

There is not a direct upgrade path to E12.  Exchange 2003 does not support W2k3 64 Bit.

The upgrade parth to E12 is to install a new E12 Mailbox server in the existing, or new Admin Group, and move the mailboxes from the E2k3 server to the new E12 server.

Is Exchange "12" going to require a SQL license?  One of the other IT guys swears that it is.

# re: Are you ready for Exchange 12?

I am VERY excited about the Fax Server portion. We are just about to invest in a third party fax server and I would love to wait and put in x64. Unfortuantely for large organization like us we have blade or card server solutions so we will have to put exhange on a stand alone x64. But 64 is the way to go.

I am ready for Exch. 2007 My question to Microsoft is will this version allow us to run exchange servers in rudundance without a 3rd party app and not running in cluster mode? That would be great

# re: Are you ready for Exchange 12?

We are in the process of installing E12 CTP on an Intel x64 system and found something in the documentation that says the UM can only run on a 32 bit system.  Is that right or a typo?  [fingers crossed with hopes it runs on x64]

# re: Are you ready for Exchange 12?

Tony - it's correct, but it's temporary. UM uses some codecs from third parties and we weren't able to get 64bit versions of those codecs in time for Beta 1. That has since been addressed in a later build. So if you are going to use x64 OS, you'll need two machines for now in order to test the CTP.

# re: Are you ready for Exchange 12?

What about upgrading a cluster?  Can you add an x64/Exchange 2007 server to an existing 2003 cluster?  Otherwise it's going to be difficult to come up with another 1/2 TB of SAN storage just to migrate.
