From the FAA:

"Runway threshold markings come in two configurations. They either consist of eight longitudinal stripes of uniform dimensions disposed symmetrically about the runway centerline, as shown in FIG 2-3-1, or the number of stripes is related to the runway width as indicated in TBL 2-3-2."

It delves into WHEN ans HOW the various forms of lighting are used. IT would be great to see this implemented in FSX. And in Mathieu's Flight Simulator Project as well.

one does not call aproach you call arrival. In Europe approach goes by several different names includeing director etc. Same goes for "center" in Europe one calls "control" I.E. London contol. So what I and other people in the add-on comunity would like to see are good hooks into the game's voice routines via an API\SDK so that we can write the needed tools so that we can add what we need to any area in the world (unless the kind people at Micrsoft are able to add the above to the code for the game for us!) Anyway thanks for giving us the ability to post what we would like to see in the next version of FS.
