Channel Insider - October 24, 2006<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Less than 3 percent of Microsoft ISVs are driving 80 percent of revenue.

Often vendor channels use the 80/20 rule - 80 percent of revenue is typically driven by 20 percent of partners. But new figures from USA state the Microsoft ISV channel receives 80 percent of its revenue out of less than 3 percent of its partners. That means that just more than 1,500 of the 67,000 partners classified as Microsoft ISV partners drive 80 percent of the ISV channel's revenue.

Microsoft has taken a number of steps to improve the performance of the masses with the future release of Windows Vista, Office 2007 and Exchange.

Microsoft needs to engage the rest of the ISV ecosystem to act more like those that are most profitable. If you are an ISV, take a look at our programmes and talk to your account manager about getting involved in our activities and campaigns.

ISVs participating in Microsoft's competency program are more successful than their peers, even those building on Microsoft but outside the program - according to an IDC report released in October.

IDC interviewed 365 ISVs in UK & USA.

Microsoft competency ISVs experienced average annual revenue growth of 25 percent, while Microsoft partners outside the program saw 20.3 percent and non-Microsoft ISVs 15 percent, IDC and Microsoft.

IDC researchers attributed most of the gap to efficiencies gained from the Microsoft partner program - such as research and development benefits, sales and marketing support and the difference in go-to-market strategies between the different channels.

The survey also found that ISV partners with more narrow technical and business focus perform better than do those with broader partner networks.

Here is a good article about the report: http://www.thechannelinsider.com/article/IDC+Microsoft+ISVs+Outperforming+Peers/192152_1.aspx

Take a look at the Microsoft ISV Programme - https://partner.microsoft.com/40011939
