A fistful of Developers
Now This is odd. I've just arrived at TechEd Orlando, driven to the hotel, walked across the road to the Convention Centre and registered, and I'm sitting on the floor in the Community lounge syncing my mail and it all feels really strange. The buzz is different, the atmosphere is - well - quieter - and there are loads and loads of women here. I mean far more than I'm used to at IT pro conferences.
I've been invited back here to host the Women in Technology lunch again (same as last year - to give an update on progress around the world so I'll be hoisting the lunch each Wednesday (Developers and IT Pro's)
I'm amazed at how many females there seems to be - perhaps they're all registering early for the conference, and its a false representation but there seems to be a much higher percentage than I've seen before. We don't ask you sex when you register, but I'm sure there's someone here with a fair idea of approximately how many women attendees there are (I assume that blokes won't ask for a female attendee shirt for example)
So my question is - is Developing more "cool" than infrastructure? Does code appeal more to women than registry keys?
or is is that the logic required suits the female brain? You tell me.
But sitting here with hundreds of people milling around, as a woman in a skirt, I don't feel quite as isolated as at past events...
