Take control of your Inbox
I don’t t think I’m an email ostrich – I currently have about 220 mails in my inbox at the moment which I’m trying to get down below 100. I clear my server folder once a year and archive off old stuff to a .pst file which I delete when it’s 2 years old. Actually I hardly ever refer to the PST from the year before - it's just nice to have just in case some of the archived mails are needed at any time.
But some of us aren’t that disciplined with their mail. Some people are totally overwhelmed by their day to day email tasks so I found this article on taking control of your email inbox quite appropriate really and I’ve picked up more tips to get me even more organised.
And my best tip at the moment? When I’ve responded to anyone's mail, I delete the mail from my inbox. I've configured Outlook to keep a copy of the outgoing mail at the bottom of my response, so it goes into the sent items folder, and I feel good about deleting the incoming mail. Once every so often, I’ll go through my sent items and delete any mails I no longer need.
It’s halved the amount of mail I keep. Go on, give it a try. Be brave. Put your finger on the delete key and... go!
What are your tips for managing your mail? Are you a delete key fiend? or a squirrel?...
