Nothing special to note.
Thurs/Fri/Sat (yes, I work weekends ;)) I spent mostly with MVPs at this year’s MVP Summit. All in all, I like the event. I get to talk to a smart group of people about our products and garner good feedback. We get a heck of a lot of “it would be better if….” sort of comments which are invaluable. I think parts of our products will improve as a result of summit (I know AD and ADAM will be better for it).

Most of my time is spent talking AD & ADAM, but I do cross in to other areas as well. I got to chat with our SBS MVPs (of course, Susan was there, as were countless others I don't have a link to I'm afraid) as well as random other MVPs I know and chat with (like Steve). All in all, a great few days, and a good use of time.

How did I spend my first post-summit hours? I went to bed. For 15 hours.

A record!

Just paid 2.999 per gallon for gas.
I have a lot of EEC engagements coming up, one having just wrapped up (though still a few tasks to work on) and a few big ones coming over the next few weeks. Some posts forthcoming on that work, I hope.

I have a few projects that I’m working on, a few I’m really starting to dig in to, it’s about that time. Some real progress on some, others need more attention. I'm really learning there are only so many hours in a day.

And then, I’ve been a little distracted due to posts about an MVPs lost daughter, Mei. Scoble linked, as did Susan and many others. Just can’t stop thinking about it. It really makes you think…..

Got a chance to get to the bloggers meeting at Crossroads.....

I saw the Scoble post on the event down at Crossroads, and just felt the need to check it out. It was my first bloggers meeting of sort, and I really had no idea what to expect. :)

All in all, very cool. There were a nice mix of people there….a few from MS, largely non-MS. Of the non-MS contingency, we had a few local bloggers and a few MSN Search Champs. The search champs were in town from all over, and it was really cool to hear about them and what they do. There was some podcasting, but since I still don’t totally get the medium, I probably don’t have much to say about that other than the fact that it was there.

I particularly liked being able to mingle and chat with a group of people that was largely technical. While not in my area per se, they all were super knowledgeable in their respective spaces and I got to hear a lot about a few different areas (MSN search & streaming media mainly). I also met one guy in my space (sorta)….Marc Orchant….who told me quite a bit about the product they make for secure shell-type access to a server. I know almost nothing about it, but I plan on doing some reading.

There was also a lot of chatting about blogging as a medium, and more generally adding RSS feeds to…well….everything! :) Ok not literally everything, but a lot of things. Like marketing websites even. I was all about it. I’ve not been part of a conversation like that before. I guess I don’t travel in the right circles. Yet. :)

So all in all, a good first blogging social event. I plan on attending a second.

Same old poster, new fancy home

It seems that the cat is out of the bag on blogs.technet.com. I, along with many of my counterparts, have made the move to this new platform, and I’m not looking back.

Those of you using links to blogs.msdn.com, well those links should work for a while, but I’d ask you update to the blogs.technet.com version whenever you have a minute. As an added bonus, it seems we have Atom 0.3 support now as well. All of this is found on my blog homepage, of course.

This blog has been somewhat quiet, but I’ve been queueing up content for this move. So from this point forward, hopefully we’ll see some more regular posting. Current thinking is at least once a week, hopefully 2-3 times a week. Let me know how I’m doing.

Time for a new adventure

I figured, it’s been a while, it’s time for a change. :)

As has been mentioned over on the EEC blog, I’ve switched departments. I’ve had a great time in PSS CPR, but am now trying things from the other side of the house. I’m now an engineer for the Enterprise Engineering Center, a part of Windows Server Development. My focus is very much the same…..AD, ADAM, and a few other related technologies…..but I hope to be more involved in alpha/beta grade code, as well as branch out some in to other areas of distributed systems (namely distributed and parallel computing).

What does this mean for this blog? Hopefully, more. Much more. This blog has been light at best, primarily because I just haven’t given it the time it needs. But I hope to have some more time now to really focus on building AD in this blog, or at a minimum conveying the coolness that I see in it. Either way, I’ll spend more time on AD and ADAM, and hopefully over the weeks/months to come branch off in to some other areas too.

In Redmond, working on a series of posts

In seeing some MVPs I got insipred to work on a few posts for some much needed topics. Most of my work these days is in the heart of what people call directory services…..Active Directory, Active Directory Application Mode, user authentication (Kerberos, etc.), random associated services (DNS, AD API's, etc.) and a few other odds and ends. Like any good techie, I do wander out of my comfort zone from time to time and touch other components, but there's usually a painful and/or funny story associated with each of these journeys.

While this blog will definitely have a directory services spin, I think that from time to time I’ll wonder out of my little world and touch on other interesting things (where the definition of the word “interesting” is left to the reader).
