This has always seemed like a no brainer. The ability to do full-text search is a HUGE selling point for WSS and makes the value of the entire thing 10-fold.

Can anyone really tell us why you can not do an upgrade in place as of April 1, 2008? There have been service packs released for most of the components on SBS and Sharepoint... particularly on a virgin server why can it not be done? Just because a whitepaper released in 2006?

I'm really messed up. When I go to try and start the uninstall for WSS 3.0, which was an automatic update that occurred in the dark of night - dirty trick - I get the message that I can't upgrade to the OEM version of Server. Is there a place where I can download a more recent version of SMall Business Server 2003 (the whole package)? It won't let me uninstall the server 2003 updates either. I have no sharepoint anymore, my backup is gone and I really don't want to have to reinstall from scratch, because I can't afford to pay $1200 bucks to an IT guy to do it.
