"Not Enough Storage is Available to Process this Command"

"Not Enough Storage is Available to Process this Command",  What.......???????  I have over 75gb free on this drive, what the heck is it talking about?  ...Everything was fine until I installed Windows Server 2003 SP1, what did it break?  Believe it or not it wasn't the workings of the service pack that caused your problem .....it was something else, something lurking deep in your registry.  Yeah right....... No really!

Appears that with some Dell OEM installations, specifically Dell PowerEdge servers using non-native disk controllers, there is a security counter mismatch problem stored in the registry during the factory installation.  The error is not encountered until you run the Active Directory Installation Wizard, or until Windows Server 2003 SP1 is installed.  Once one of these two actions are taken on the server.......Boom.......Error!

Dell has released additional information concerning specific system configurations that maybe affected by this problem: http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kb/en/document?dn=1092292

This is all great....but whats the fix?

KB 898792 - http://support.microsoft.com/?id=898792

The article offers a link to a download that will resolve the security counter mismatch in the registry and resolve the error.    So how does it work anyway?  After the applying the download, the program will proactively correct the registry issue through registry intergity checking functions in the system kernel.  The integrity checking is initiated once the server is rebooted.  Don't forget to reboot!!!!!

Review the article for a list of factory installed disk controller drivers.

Hi, Ed,

Could you please hint at how you found the root cause?

Thanks in advance
