The Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 scenarios for the Demo Showcase are currently being tested by internal and selected partners. The scenarios range from Infrastructure Management with SMS and Vista through a number of various collaboration examples involving many of the new features in Office System 2007, to integration of our ERP solutions in MSDynamics.
Just to touch on the previopus post on resources. These new scenarios have good performance on a Vista laptop with 3GB RAM. I did play with the memory and dropped the setting a bit for the Server and Client to see how things would go and I'm happy to report that it didn't detract from the demo experience. I'll post a list of some of the propsed scenarios and the technologies involved soon.
In all the sessions we have delivered on the Demo Showcase, the memory requirement has been the biggest challenge for our partners. In the invite to the sessions we run we do stress the need to have 2GB of RAM on their systems in order to run the images.
Consistently we do get partners showing up with 1.5GB and 1GB of RAM which limits their ability to run the scenarios. This isn't a slight against our partners, it's a business reality that not every role can justify the cost of upgrading the RAM.
What we have managed to do in these situation is use the slider in the Memory setting for the image in VPC, and adjust/tweek the memory in order to run the images. In cases where the partner has 1.5 gb or 1 GB of RAM we'll trim the image requirements to the minimum where they will run adequately. This may be something you have to play with a few times to get the right setting.
In most cases where we have done this with partners we have had success where they can run scenarios that require 2 images with 1.5GB to 1GB of RAM. To run 3 images then you would need the full 2GB requirement.
Here in Canada we have been using the People Ready Demo Showcase in monthly sessions. The Demo Showcase is a kit of DVDs available to Microsoft Certified and Gold Certified Partners. The goal of the Demo Showcase is to help partners use the presentations and solutions demonstrations to target roles based opportunities with their customers. i.e. If you are presenting MSCRM to a CEO of a Mid-Sized business then there is a specific demo script and image you run to focus the solution to that audience.
We have had great turnout for our sessions, not just in Mississauga where the Head Office is located, but also in Vancouver, Calgary, and Montreal. So look here for future sessions and info on the Demo Showcase that you can take advantage of.
