The feature pack that is supposed to fix quite a few issues was released on the 1st July. I seemed to

So, how do I install this on a Server 2008 Enterprise 64 bit system? The install continues to fail and the native backup is worthless with Exchange and Sharepoint.

We're actually running into an odd problem updating the feature pack on one of our DPM servers.

I get an error that the update failed to complete, and it rolls back.

When we look at the DataProtectionManager-KB949779.log file, we see the following:

MSI (s) (B8:28) [10:58:00:065]: Product: Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 - Update 'Microsoft Data Protection Manager 2007 Update - KB949779' could not be installed. Error code 1603. Additional information is available in the log file C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\..\DPMLogs\DataProtectionManager-KB949779.log.

I am attempting to install the feature pack on a 2008 Enterprise server (x64). I am getting the exact same error message as ajhicks.

I ran into this problem this morning. In the setup log this event occurs:

_PreserveRegistrySettings.97DDF5B3_3770_4C3E_8673_52BD081E1EFD. Return value 3.

Return value 3 being a fatal error. Using Process Monitor one failed registry access stood out; an attempt to read an InstallPath key at this location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Data Protection Manager\Setup\

I created a string key called InstallPath and populated it with the path to the DPM installation (C:\Program Files\Microsoft DPM\DPM in my case), and the patch went through fine.

After applying SP1 when a backup job fails it is no longer displayed in DPM Monitoring - Alert Tab (the backup job is to tape)

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I'm also seeing the same issue after SP1 for DPM 2007 is installed -- the tape backup job fails and is no longer displayed in the DPM Monitoring Alert Tab.

Any ideas?
