Vista and Windows Meeting Space
As I'm exploring the new and interesting things in our worldwide tehnical training event at Microsoft, something that took me by surprise was Windows Meeting Space.
This Vista feature allows Vista clients to do Ad-Hoc collaboration on documents or discussions without a network infrastructure as long as they are within 400 feet. One person opens up the meeting space and others join or are invited to join. One example I'm thinking of, is the typical non productive stuff I see, like when multiple people are presenting in a meeting, how much time is wasted waiting for someone to plug into a projector, or move their presentation to the connected machine..wouldnt it be better to link the presenters together to the machine on the projector so they present when its their turn from where they are at the table from their own machine without shuffling.
Another is ad hoc opinions on documents or presentations..while Groove or Sharepoint are good for collaboration on an ongoing basis, meeting space is a more efficient one time "what do you think of this" scenario. (There is presence as well, using away, I'll be back, etc)
For Financial Industry and enterprise concerns with this, the service is both controllable and loggable via group policy. (Did I just read your mind?)
Try it out via the Beta, and let me know your thoughts about how it can help, and how it could be better
