This blog post is faked....

Subtitled - R.I.P. Rob Pilatus

With the recent news reports that the Chinese placed a different girl on stage than who actually sang, and reports that some of the fireworks for the opening ceremonies were digitally inserted, when I ran across an article that said a BSOD was projected on the ceiling of National Stadium during the final moments of the torch lighting ceremonies, I chuckled to myself and said "It was probably faked". At the very least is was just a screen shot projected on screen to make MS look bad. But I guess I am a little biased being a Microsoft employee....

I fell for the whole Milli Vanilli thing back in the late 80's (I blame the 70's and early 80's for not being able to pick out that fake out) and who has ever watched an awards show and thought "Wow! Britney must be in awesome shape to dance so feverishly and her voice still be perfect!". At least in the latter case, Britney did sing it in the studio (didn't she!?!?!). With the Olympics.... no.... especially with the Olympics and the IOC and I assume the majority of the free world wanting real competition and not wanting doped athletes and the like that everything would be real.

I guess we can look the other way when a huge percentage of what the world consumes has that little "Made in China" sticker on it.....

I was actually going to watch some of the Olympics tonight over at a friends house. But after hearing about the fireworks and the singing girl(s) I begged off and decided to stay home and watch Gattaca. At least I knew the fake out scenario presented in the movie fictionalized (it is....isn't it!?!?!?). Who wants to take bets on whether that movie scenario comes to fruition in the next 20 years?

Sidebar.....

My wife and I have had a few conversations about evidence used in criminal trials. We both believe it is just a matter of time before photo/video/audio evidence is deemed inadmissible because technology will be advanced to the point that anyone can create anything they want, record it, and present it as the real thing and no one will be able to tell the difference. For those that scoff at this, just think back 200 years and ask if anyone could set foot on the moon.

There will come a day when it will be practically impossible to discern the real anything from the fake anything. I hope that day comes after my family line has long since died out but my guess is it will happen within my children's lifetime and likely before I make my final punch at the time clock.

Back to today though.....

What if it were never discovered/divulged that the fireworks were faked or that the girl on screen wasn't really the one singing? We have one of the more powerful governments on the planet promoting and condoning the falsification of reality on a massive scale in the name of nationalism as an attempt to dupe....well....the world! Yet no other government seems to (publicly) feel threatened by this or inclined to (publicly) do anything about it. I think I know why, but I will reserve my conspiracy theories for my soon to be revived Stewed Prunes blog....

The big irony here comes form the very lyrics that Rob and Fab DID NOT sing "Girl you know it's true...."

It is anything but....

Cheers!
