Client Tracing Registry Keys

Many times while troublshooting problems with LCS it is helpful to be able to get logging from both the server and the client. The following is a list of registry setting to enable logging from the client side.

For Windows Messenger 5.0/5.1 use regedit and navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Tracing\RTCDLL

To generate a logfile, you must set the EnableFileTracing registry value equal to 1 and restart Windows Messenger.

For Office Communicator use regedit and navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Tracing\LCAPI

To generate a logfile, you must set the EnableFileTracing registry value equal to 1 an restart Office Communicator.

On both clients, the default location for the log files is %USERPROFILE%\Tracing. This location can be changed by editing the FileDirectory registry value.
