Hit the ground running

A little piece of the pie from my eyes
Licensing SBS 08

So a number of people have brought to my attention the licensing around SBS 08. So baring in mind that SBS is designed for small businesses where users are often changing, and often use temps, but don’t have an onsite IT guy to manage licenses, SBS 08 is based around a trust licensing model but must obviously stress the importance of being compliant with licenses. There is a link on the admin console network tab that will allow users to buy new CALs. However there is no way of digitally managing CALs in SBS (like there is in EBS), so paper copies are currently the best way of keeping track. However as this is small business server there wont be too many licenses to manage.

We've just purchased SBS2008 STD with an additional 5 user cals. So are you saying that I don't have to input the product key (that i got for the cals) on the server?

There is actually nowhere to put the CALs into, unlike with EBS
