What is the future of your server room?

 

Is your Infrastructure Optimized? Are you ready to take the next steps? Windows Vista, Office 2007 and Exchange 2007 have launched but that isn't all Microsoft has up their sleeve. Microsoft has got big things coming in the virtualization arena. The System Center and Forefront Security tools are being released and there's the next generation of Windows Server codenamed "Longhorn" coming out in Beta 3. What better place to learn about these exciting new technologies and see how they can be utilized to address the challenges IT Professionals are facing everyday than signing up for the Future of the Server Room tour. @David, Whatever your choice of OS is, you should be aware that none are 100% secure and keep up to date on the latest issues affecting your OS.  You may also want to check out http://blogs.csoonline.com/blog/jeff_jones for some analysis on various operating systems.

David, I'd like to invite you to Energize IT '07 on June 16th in Toronto.  Jeff Jones will be speaking about "the numbers", where he gets them from and how he does his vulnerability analysis.  There should also be an oppotunity to ask him questions.

Thanks for the invite.  However, my company and I have a corporate policy against using software unless (a) we have the source code, and (b) we're allowed to modify the source code for our own use.  Frankly, that's the *only* type of software I trust.

Therefore, our entire infrastructure from desktop to server to phone system to CRM to trouble-ticketing system is built on Free and Open-Source Software.

I estimate we save around $25,000 per year in licensing fees and untold thousands by not having to run AV software, not having to pay for updates, etc.  We also have an amazingly-integrated software stack, tying together our phones, invoicing system, CRM system and helpdesk system.

Why would I want to change that?

The invite is open to all, no matter what you use and it will take place on June 16th at the MTCC on Front Street.  I fully believe in using the solution that fits the bill and I am glad you've found one that works.  I still hope you can make it even just to socialize with other IT professionals and if you do, make sure you say hello.

I would also be interested in knowing more about what you've done, it's the geek in me :)  Email me if you have the time to chat about it.
