But still wanted to share as at-least I was waiting for it from long time :) I was using Windows Vista SP1 from last 3 weeks but February 4th I saw this link somewhere in

re: Shipping a High Quality Vista Service Pack 1

When will the standalone download be available on the Microsoft Download Centre ??

re: Shipping a High Quality Vista Service Pack 1

I'm sorry, but I believe MSDN and Technet subscribers should have gotten SP1 along with the OEM's on milestone 1.

We are awaiting SP1 so we can actually test our applications and client portals with SP1 and whether we need to program any changes. And we want to do that BEFORE our clients can get the updates through the regular channels.

Not releasing SP1 to MSDN/Technet will cause a lot of IT professionals to look elsewhere for SP1, it has already "leaked" to the internet.

Quite honestly, it is a slap in the face to all those that paid good money for their MSDN and technet subscriptions, and were expecting to test SP1 at least for a FEW lousy weeks before the masses get a hold of it.

Microsoft dropped the ball on that one. Badly.

re: Shipping a High Quality Vista Service Pack 1

Will it be on MSDN and TechNet at Mile Stone 2?
It's just an update and we are not trying to make it secret. It may be leaked or not but from MSDN/TechNet perspective, it takes a while to update sites with new product.

Currently it's available through Connect for SP1 TAP customers only. We understand that you are looking for SP1 for tesing your vista compatible products. You may contact Microsoft for alternate options. I hope that may help.

re: Shipping a High Quality Vista Service Pack 1

No..MSDN/Technet availability is in Milestone 3.
How can we get Vista SP1 on CD Rom so that we can update these two machines ?

You may download the SP1 from MSDN or Technet and burn on a CD and install on any Windows Vista SKU.

It would also be available through Windows Update and Microsoft Download Center by Mid March.

We will have Slipstream version of Vista as well for fresh installations.

What the heck is "Windows Vista SKU". What about us poor slobs that still have dial-up. I understand the SP1 update is 200+ MB. (200 hours download time) So make a CD and charge for it. XP SP1 and 2 were free. Why is Microsoft making it so difficult for Vista users. I'll think I'll switch back to XP as I will be dead before support is ended for it and for MS to fix Vista. Not a joke!!!!!!!!!!!

re: Shipping a High Quality Vista Service Pack 1

We are not going to ship SP1 separately in a media. We have slipstreamed version of Windows Vista media with SP1. For RTM users, unfortunately you have only option as download the package. It's 434.5 MB and may take 17 hours on dial-up connection :(.

Vista SKU means different versions of Windows Vista such as Business, Enterprise, Ultimate etc.

Vista SP1 (KB 936330) is completly free but only problem is that you need to download this. It was same with Windows XP. If you want to download Windows XP SP3, it's 900 MB and may take 30 Hours to download. As Windows XP is going out of support next year, it's always better to have either latest SP or newer OS. But finally it's your decision!
